Abstract

Abstract

Perineum tearing after delivery can increase the risk of postpartum infection and increase maternal morbidity. Efforts that can be made are with kegel exercises and the birthball method, but there is not much research evidence discussing them. This study aims to determine the effect of Kegel exercise and birth ball techniques on Perineum tearing in women giving birth at PMB Muara Enim Health Center Area. This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a control group. The subjects in the study were normal delivery mothers with an active phase in the PMB of the Muara Enim Health Center who met the inclusion criteria and were willing to become respondents by signing the consent form after being given the informed consent. The sample in this study were 90 people divided into three groups, namely 30 people in the kegel exercise group, 30 people in the birthball group and 30 people in the control group. This study used the Kruskallwallis test followed by the Mann Whitney test. The results showed that the control group had a second-degree perineal tear (50.0%), the Kegel exercise group did not experience a tear (80%), the birth ball exercise group did not experience a tear (80%). There is an effect of kegel exercise and birth ball technique on birth canal tears in women giving birth (p value = 0.000). There was a significant difference between the control group and the Kegel Exercise and birth ball groups (p value = 0.000). There was no difference between the kegel exercise group and the birthball group in the tearing of the birth canal in women giving birth, p value = 0.949. Both kegel exercise and birth ball methods can be used as interventions to prevent perineal tears.
